VOTE FOR KIDS

What began as a request from Share Our Strength's Board of Directors became bigger than our Communications team anticipated. For the 2018 midterm elections, we launched "Vote for Kids", a campaign focused on urging No Kid Hungry's online communities to take action by using their vote to elect individuals who would help increase access to programs like school breakfast, summer meals, and after-school meals.

In 2018, the social component of the campaign served as a reminder of WHO voters were casting their ballots on behalf of and how they could use their vote to combat childhood hunger in their community and state.

I was proud to lead the social and creative direction of the campaign. From the logo to sourcing imagery, to producing copy and strategy - Vote for Kids was my first campaign owned from conception to completion.

In 2020, amid the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was proud to lead the art direction, strategy, and social campaign for Vote for Kids.

This campaign, due to the circumstances of the moment, was expanded beyond the faces of kids impacted. Due to the increase in ballots cast by mail, we made sure to create reminders for voters.

The 2020 election also marked two important milestones, a century of women being able to vote, as well as the 55th anniversary of the Voting Right Acts, which struck down racist and unjust laws around Black Americans exercising their right to vote. It was important to me and the organization to make sure we acknowledged these two important historical milestones.

ERASING STIGMA

Often, our team would hear from teachers and school officials that one of the biggest barriers to kids accessing free breakfast or after-school meals was the stigma they felt from their peers.

As a campaign between our tentpole moments of our Powered by Breakfast and Summer Meals, this campaign was born from a video that was several years old and hadn't seen much use.

Reimagining how to use stills from the video, I inserted pops of No Kid Hungry's brand colors and powerful quotes to make something new. The illustrations allowed both kids and adults to see themselves in the graphics, often sharing their reflections with us in the comments. It was powerful to create content that not only touched people on a deep level but helped them realize that they weren't alone in what they were feeling - and that someone understood.

SUMMER ACTION WEEK AND BACK-TO-SCHOOL

After a busy summer, Our team wanted to take a break from the graphic-heavy approach to campaigns we had leaned into throughout the year. For these two mini-campaign moments, I leaned into creating content that took a more photography-forward approach to the visuals.

This content was a blast to create! They added a pop of color and visual contrast to our social channels - especially our Instagram grid.

#SNAPFEEDSKIDS

In the summer of 2020, our organization was urging Congress to strengthen SNAP in the next COVID-19 relief package.

SNAP is a lifeline for families, but during the unprecedented challenges many were facing amid the pandemic, it was more important than ever. These graphics served as a rallying call for our online communities to reach out to their representatives and urge them to increase SNAP and PEBT benefits by 15% in the next COVID-Relief Package. This increase would help 14 million kids across America.
